Teaching and Outreach The Completely Hackable Amateur Radio Telescope (CHART) project is an undergraduate-led outreach initiative that brings hands-on radio astronomy to the wider community. Participants build their own low-cost radio telescope using off the shelf components capable of detecting 21-cm hydrogen emission from the Milky Way. The project emphasizes accessibility– all software, documentation, and tutorials are fully open source, and the total build cost is kept under $200 so it’s approachable for classrooms. The project is suitable for students at the high school or undergraduate level, and has been successfully incorporated into classrooms at a number of institutions. CHART is a collaboration between Winona State University, McGill University, and Arizona State University, and we’re always looking for new students, educators, or collaborators to get involved. The ALPHA association offers advanced laboratory immersions for undergraduate educators. Led an immersion in 2025 and 2026, teaching undergraduate instructors an advanced radio astronomy lab.

Workshop Instructor, Summer 2022 & 2025:
Winona State University
Co-led and taught a week long workshop for middle and high school educators on building and operating a low cost radio telescope.

TA, Fall & Spring 2023:
SESE 410: Senior Exploration Project I, Arizona State University
Capstone course for seniors in the School of Earth and Space Exploration, in which students work in teams to plan and complete a research project.

Lead Developer & Teacher, Spring 2023:
Radio Astronomy Bootcamp, Arizona State University
Developed and taught a weeklong evening class in the Spring semester, free for undergraduate students. Spring 2023 had over 30 students attend.
